Modeling of Leakage Current of Outdoor Insulator under clean and contaminated Conditions

Abstract

Outdoor high voltage insulators used to insulate the conductor in transmission line. During operation they may affected by environmental conditions such as rain, humidity, air pressure and some pollutants from industry and salt from sea. The insulators are also under high electricity stresses continuously. At the time of dry conditions, leakage current flow on the surface of the insulator will be hard going. However, on the contaminated condition and drizzle, leakage current flow on the surface of the insulator will easy form and cause increased surface leakage current.

This paper presents the modeling of leakage current of outdoor insulator be divided into three main conditions of insulator i.e. clean, contaminated and dry-band discharge condition. By using the models, the leakage current on insulator surface have been simulated using EWB software package

The simulation results show that wave form of leakage current on insulator surface were different. Each condition gives us information about wave form and magnitude of leakage current that show of surface conditions.
